In a raw, emotional, and explosive performance, Javier Martin makes himself completely vulnerable in an intense spiritual journey of personal torment, loss, growth, and determination, to overcome his past in order to progress into the person he is today. Conveying the universal struggle against conformity, the fight for truth and freedom, in Lies and Light, Martin destroys the very material that he uses to create his Blindness collages.
Both symbolic and visceral, Lies and Light is about the shattering of untruths and barriers. The lights, used across the Blindness collection to symbolize complacency and artificiality, are fanned out on the floor of the space. As Martin smashes through each light, kneeling in the broken glass of the previous one, he embodies the difficult and satisfying journey towards truth.
